Social Enterprise

Nepali Spice Company is a Social Enterprise owned in part by our non-profit beneficiary, Act for Humanity. Nepali Spice Company uses commercial opportunities to accomplish the goals of our mission by employing local refugees, partnering with socially driven suppliers in Nepal, and contributing 10% of profits to Act for Humanity’s educational and empowerment programs in Lancaster and Nepal.

Social Enterprises:

  • Have a clear social and/or environmental mission set out as part of their governance

  • Generate the majority of their income through trade

  • Reinvest the majority of their profits

  • Are autonomous of state

  • Are controlled in the interests of the social mission

  • Are accountable and transparent

Benefit Corporation

​

Nepali Spice Company is a certified Benefit Corporation.

​

A benefit corporation is a traditional corporation with modified obligations committing it to higher standards of purpose, accountability, and transparency.

​

Benefit Corporations have the following

​

1.  Purpose: Benefit corporations commit to creating public benefit and sustainable value in addition to generating profit. This sustainability is an integral part of the value proposition.

2.  Accountability: Benefit corporations are committed to considering the company’s impact on society and the environment in order to create long-term sustainable value for all stakeholders.

3. Transparency: Benefit corporations are required to report annually, in most states, and using a third party standard, showing their progress towards achieving social and environmental impact to their shareholders and in most cases the wider public.
